Dark deeds and dangerous dames:
an exploration of Film Noir

with Tim Swanwick

7:30 Thursday 24th November  2011
The TV Studio, West Herts College, Hempstead Road, WD17 3EZ

Tim Swanwick presented a guide to the stylistic idioms and themes of a genre made famous by such films as 'Double Indemnity', 'Laura' and 'The Maltese Falcon'.

This brief illustrated talk was followed by a complete screening of Edgar G Ulmer's classic B movie, 'Detour' (PG, 69').  Released in 1945,  'Detour' is 'haunting and creepy, an embodiment of the guilty soul of film noir.  No one who has seen it has easily forgotten it, (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times).
