About us

Watford Film Society

Watford Film Society is a community organization run by a group of local volunteers aimed at widening the cinematic experience for Watford residents and providing a regular forum for talks and discussions about film.  In 2010 the society won two awards at the British Federation of Film Societies' annual conference.

The Society aims to:

Present screenings of films to the public once or twice a month.

Show films ranging from current releases not receiving widespread distribution, to documentaries and foreign films that bear witness to the world and classic movies that benefit from being seen on a big screen.

Draw audiences from the local community and further afield.

Work with local schools and parents' groups (most specifically Watford Grammar School for Boys), colleges and arts organizations, and other community groups to cater for as wide an audience as possible.

Follow British Federation of Film Society (BFFS) guidelines on functioning as an 'open-to-all' society; for a small annual subscription members will benefit from reduced price tickets bought in advance.

Make tickets easily available on the door or in advance online.

Operate as a not-for-profit organisation

Present additional supporting events such as short films, talks, and Q & A sessions before the main feature.

Hire films from appropriate distributors according to BFFS guidelines.

Apply for available funding grants from the UK Film Council, regional screen agency and the local council.

Host a website with programming details, membership information and application, pricing, advance sales, venue information, contact details etc.

Provide refreshments at each screening and an opportunity for social interaction.
